Tuscany
Monday 9/14
Meet in Florence and take our private van to Radda in Chianti. The drive is just a bit more than one hour, but we’ll stop halfway for lunch and our first meal together. We will arrive at our small, boutique hotel, just outside of town. There will be time to unpack, take a walk or a dip in the pool before our dinner together at the hotel at 7:00.
Tuesday 9/15
Breakfast is included and served every morning. We will drive into town to a family butcher and wine shop for a private wine tasting paired with salame and cheese from the shop, which has been in the same family since 1965. The afternoon is free for bike rides or hikes through the surrounding vineyards. Dinner that night is on your own at the hotel restaurant or in town.
Wednesday 9/16
Depart at 9:45 for the one-hour drive to a Biodynamic Wine & Olive Oil producer near San Gimignano, where we will meet our truffle dog and its human and go on a truffle walk. After the walk, we’ll have a three-course lunch (with truffles!) paired with four of their wines. After lunch there will be time for a walk through the historic center of San Gimignano. We will have dinner together that evening in Radda.
Thursday 9/17
Relax after breakfast before departing at 11:30 for a wine tour at Marchesi Mazzei in Fonterutoli (25 minute drive). After the tour, we’ll have a tasting of four wines paired with a tasting menu at their osteria. Return to the hotel around 3:30-4:00. Dinner on your own
Friday 9/18
After breakfast, depart for Siena (apporoximately 45 minutes). There will be time for shopping, wine tasting and lunch on your own. We’ll stop in Castellina in Chianti after Siena and have dinner at La Torre, which has been in the same family since the late 1800s.
Saturday 9/19
Leave at 11:00 for Castelo Verrazano (approximately 1 hour) for a wine tour, tasting and lunch. This castle and winery has been in the same family since the 7th century. Their ancestor “discovered” present day New York City. Dinner is on your own.
Sunday 9/20
After breakfast you have the option of renting an ebike, hiking the vineyards, going to the spa or the pool, or relaing a reading a book. For our last evening, we will travel to Lamole for dinner at the acclaimed restaurant of the same name.
Monday 9/21
Breakfast, then depart a bit before 11:00, with a scheduled arrival at Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence at noon.
