Parma
Wednesday 9/9
Arrive in Parma by train. Taxi to our apartments, located in the historic center near Piazza Garibaldi. The historic center is a wonderful area with pedestrian streets (watch our for bicycles!), lined with stylish clothing stores, bars, cafes and restaurants. We’ll meet at 5:00 for aperitivo and go to a traditional Emilia Romagna trattoria for dinner.
Thursday, 9/10
We will meet at a cafe 2 minutes walk from our apartments for coffee and pastry. If you need eggs, we’ll suggest a few places nearby. Walk to Piazza Garibaldi for our 10:00am private van to Langhirano (30 minutes), where we will visit one of the top prosciutto producers in the region for a tour which ends with a taste of 24-month old prosciutto and a glass of sparkling Malvasia. After our tour we will go to the 15th Century Torrechiara Castle for lunch at their trattoria and a tour of the castle. Returning to Parma around 3:00, you’ll have the rest of the day and evening on your own. We will provide a list of recommended possibilites.
Friday, 9/11
After an early breakfast, we will meet our van by 8:00am for a drive to a dairy where we will actually see the workers receiving the morning milk and making the famed Reggiano Parmigiano. After the tour, we’ll taste their 12-month, 24-month and 36-month aged cheese. We will return to Parma around noon, when you’ll have time for shopping and lunch on your own. We will have dinner at 7:00 at one of Parma’s favorite restaurants, La Greppia.
Saturday, 9/12
Final morning at local cafe, Bombé for cappucino and pastries.
